What is a fidget toy?

Fidget Toy is the English term that includes everything that you touch, squeeze or play with in your hand to reduce stress and increase focus and concentration. In today's modern society, stress is a major health problem and is caused not least by the fact that we are always connected via our phones that peck at our attention. In Sweden we have called these stress balls or anti-stress balls, but since these now come in more forms than as balls, they have increasingly switched to the name fidget toys.

Fidget toys are good for stress relief

Fidget toys and stress balls have proven to be good for calming nerves and reducing stress, but also for increasing concentration and focus. By squeezing and massaging them, you “trick” the body into relaxing and lowering stress levels. In addition, researchers have proven that doing something with your hands while your brain is working can increase concentration. For example, it can be about being able to concentrate on what the teacher is saying in a lesson, a long lecture at university or a meeting in the workplace. So using your hands is good for learning, concentration and maintaining focus.

Fidget toys and ADHD

Some studies have also shown that stress balls have a positive impact on people with ADHD and concentration difficulties. One tip for teachers if stress balls are used in school is that children should use them under the desk so as not to distract other children.

What does a fidget toy look like?

In the past, stress balls were just a ball about 5-7 cm in diameter, but nowadays stress balls and fidget toys can have all sorts of fun looks, colors and functions. Despite this, they are still called stress balls.
