Trender kommer, trender går men luktsudd består…

Trends come, trends go, but odors remain...

Did you know that scented erasers, i.e. scented erasers, became popular back in the 80s?

Scented erasers are hardly new to today's kids, but for their parents who grew up in the 80s, they were a rarity and a collector's item. Those who managed to collect some cared for them tenderly and certainly didn't use them to erase pencils - then they would be ruined and lose their collector's value.

They were brightly colored and shaped like flowers, hearts, animals, or cars. If you had two of the same one, you could swap them for others.

We say "eraser" today, but in the past they also said "rubber". These were usually made of caoutchouc, which comes from a wild rubber tree growing in the rainforests of Brazil.

Until the 1770s, bread was used as an eraser! It had been discovered that bread could remove pencil from paper. The problem, however, was that the bread went moldy after a while and lost its erasing ability.

In 1770, Joseph Priestly discovered that it was just as effective to erase pencil marks with rubber instead. But the discovery was actually a mistake - Joseph picked up some pieces of rubber instead of breadcrumbs and began to erase.

Suddenly he had made a discovery that would help many future schoolchildren correct their mistakes in a simple way.

The rubber rubs against the pencil writing, and the angular pencil grains stick to the greasy rubber surface.

The pencil and rubber roll up into small "sausages" that loosen and fall off, revealing new, clean rubber.

When the rubber is rubbed against the paper, it pulls the carbon molecular chains out of the paper fibers and the marks disappear. So simple and so good for those of us who like to erase our mistakes!

Today there are lots of fun and fragrant odor wipes in all sorts of colors, shapes and scents.
