Batikfärgning trendigare än någonsin!

Batik dyeing trendier than ever!

Hurry Skurry Admin|

Last year, batik-patterned garments were already visible on the catwalk in Paris, but this year the trend is bigger than ever. Batik patterns are part of the style called Boho-chic and can be seen not only on clothes but also in exclusive interior design stores in the form of pillows, tablecloths and porcelain.

For all of us who like to renew old into new, tie-dyeing is a fun and creative way to create something unique. Maybe you have some white t-shirts that aren't so white anymore? Or maybe some old sheets that could be turned into new summery sofa cushions or a tablecloth for the outdoor table?

Tie Dye – the modern technique of tie-dyeing

Tie Dye is a batik technique where cotton cords or rubber bands are placed around the wrapped, spun fabric to stop the dye from penetrating the fabric and where selected areas are dyed. It is possible to use several different colors at the same time and the dye is sprayed directly onto the fabric.

There are several different ways to wrap and spin the fabric before dyeing. The method we show below is called Spiral.

Time needed: 45 minutes

How to do Tie Dye?

  1. Spin

Before you start, you need to wash the fabric you are going to dye. Place the damp fabric on a table and twist it together with a fork, wooden stick or by pinching a small grip in the middle. Twist the fabric together until it becomes a small ball.

  2. Bind

Tie the piece of fabric together with rubber bands or cotton string so that it holds its shape.

  3. Color

Spray paint on the fabric according to your desired colors and patterns – let your creativity flow!
You may need to rotate and/or flip your fabric to make sure you cover all parts.
Then it is important that you carefully place the fabric in a plastic bag and let it rest for 6-8 hours before taking it out again.

  4. Fix

Mix fixing salt and water according to the package directions. Then dip your fabric in the salt bath and carefully remove the rubber bands and unroll the fabric in water. This will fix the color and keep it on the garment after future washes.

  5. Done!

Let dry and enjoy the result.

  6. At Hurry Skurry you will find fabric paint in many different colors. They can also be mixed with each other to get your favorite shade. It is best to use cotton fabrics, they give the best effect. And here you will find salt, which you also need to fix the color.

Good luck!
